CV


Xavier Le Roy was born in Juvisy sur Orge (France), 1963. He studied biochemistry at the University of Montpellier. In 1988 he started to dance with Véronique Larcher, in 1990 with Ruth Barnes and Anne Koren. Between 1991 and 1995 he worked with the "Compagnie de
l' Alambic", Paris (choreographer Christian Bourrigault).

From 1992 until 1997 he performed with the group "Detektor" (Berlin).

In 1993 he began to develop his own work and research and in 1994 he formed the group "Le Kwatt" in collaboration with A. Birntraum and Sylvie Garot.

In 1994, they created "Things I Hate To Admit",

In 1995 "Zonder Fact",

In 1997 "Burke". These 3 pieces were presented as a triptych "Narcisse Flip".

In 1996 he began a collaboration with the photographer and video-artist Laurent Goldring and with Le Kwatt they created "Blut et Boredom", 1996.

In the same year Xavier Le Roy worked with the company "Quatuor Albrecht Knust" (Paris) on the recreation of a piece by Yvonne Rainer "Continuous Project-Altered Daily" (1970) and "Satisfying Lover" (1968) by Steve Paxton.

In 1997 he developed in collaboration with A. Birntraum a research project called "Das To.Be. Project".

In 1998 he initiated a collective research project called "namenlos".

In the same year he participated in the improvisation project "CrashLanding@Lisboa" (initiated by Meg Stuart, Christine De Smedt, David Hernandez and Danças Na Cidade) and in the theory - event "Body Currency" at the Wiener Festwochen (invited by Mårten Spångberg, Hortensia Völckers and Christophe Wavelet).

He choreographed a solo performance called "Self Unfinished" (8.Cottbuser Tanztage, Germany).

In 1999 he produced a lecture-performance called: "Product of Circumstances" (Podewil, TanzWerkstatt, Berlin).

He danced for Mårten Spångberg in the project "Avant-garde" and for Alain Buffard (Paris) for the creation of "MORE et encore".

He founded the group "in situ productions " together with Petra Roggel and invited choreographers, dancers, video-artists, theoreticians to work on an experimental project called "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S."

In 2000, he conceived and realized a piece from Jérôme Bel ("Xavier Le Roy"), collaborated on two events ("Meetings") with Yvonne Rainer during the Internationales Tanzfest Berlin, gives EXTENSIONS workshops in different countries in collaboration with Stefan Pente. in situ productions organized the event "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S.# 2.7 Podewil" in december 2000.

In 2001 Xavier Le Roy / in situ productions organized E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S. # 3.2 Springdance Festival- Utrecht and "tricoter (titre provisoire)" during the Kunstenfestival des Arts, Bruxelles.

During the Festival d' Avignon in July 2001 "Giszelle", a solo created with and for Eszter Salamon premiered within the frame of "Le Vif du Sujet".

2003: production of "Project" which premiere at the Gulbenkian Foundation, CAPITALS, Lisbonne.

Direction / Staging / Choreography of the opera "Theater der Wiederholungen" from Bernhard Lang in the frame of the festival "Steirischer Herbst", Graz — cultural capital 2003.

In 2004, he was invovled in various educational programs within different contexts and institutions and gave workshops at: the University of Theater Science in Giessen (Germany), P.A.R.T.S (Brussels), the Fine Arts School of Perpignan (France), the Summer Academy at Mousonturm (Frankfurt, Germany), the London Summer School (Great Britain), the workshop during the the festival In-Presentable (Madrid, Spain), La Bâtie (Geneva), la Casa Hoffman, Curitiba (Brazil) and in the frame of the education program ex.e.r.ce at CCN Montpellier, France.

In 2005, he staged an opera scenario by Bernhard Lang within the project « Seven Attempted Escapes from Silence» at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin (September 14th premiere).
Following a commission of Wien Modern 2005 he conceived “Mouvements für Lachenmann“, a concert evening with music pieces by Helmut Lachenmann.

In 2006 he stages the opera "Theater der Wiederholungen" (The theatre of Repetitions) from Bernhard Lang at the Opera de Bastille, Paris. In the frame of Zukunft@BFil "MusicTanz-Modern Times" he was invited by the Berliner Philharmonie to choreograph "Ionisation" from Edgar Varèse with 40 kids (December 10th premiere).

In 2007 invited by Mathilde Monnier, he becomes associated artist at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, France where is co-directing the educational programm ex.e.r.ce07. He presents his solo work on Stravinsky's « Le Sacre du Printemps» (Premiere June 07).

In 2008 for a second year, he is associated artist at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, France and is co-directing the educational programm ex.e.r.ce08. Together wtith Bojana Cvéjic he initiates the project 6M1L (6Month1Location), inviting 9 artists working in different research projects and performance productions as well as other types of events linked to all activities of the CCN de Montpellier, France.

At the moment he is preparing a choreography for musiciens, "More Mouvement für Lachenmann", which will premiere during the festival of Montpellier Danse 2008 (30th of June/ 1st of July).

CV


Xavier Le Roy est né en France en 1963. Il étudie la biochimie à l'université de Montpellier, et durant ses 3 dernières années d'études, il prend des cours de danse moderne avec Véronique Larcher. En 1990, après l’obtention de sa thèse en biologie moléculaire et cellulaire, il va à Paris et prend des cours de danse avec Ruth Barnes et Anne Koren. En 1991, il danse avec la Compagnie de l'Alambic à Paris, et ce jusqu'en 1995.

De 1992 à 1997 Xavier Le Roy travaille avec le groupe interdisciplinaire Detektor (Berlin).

En 1993, il commence à développer ses recherches et en

1994 il forme, en collaboration avec le musicien A. Birntraum et la designer lumière Sylvie Garot, le groupe Le Kwatt. Ils produisent:

1997 "Burke" ces trois chorégraphies sont présentées sous forme de triptyque intitulé "Narcisse Flip".

En 1996, il commence une collaboration avec Laurent Goldring pour "Blut et Boredom".

La même année il travaille avec la compagnie Quatuor Albrecht Knust (Paris) sur le re-création de pièces d'Yvonne Rainer et de Steve Paxton.

En 1997, en collaboration avec A. Birntraum ils développent un projet pour explorer les relations entre son et mouvement "Das To.Be.Projekt".

En 1998 il initie un projet de recherche collectif intitulé "namenlos" en invitant des chorégraphes, danseurs, artistes visuels, théoriciens et musiciens à travailler durant 2 semaines au Podewil, TanzWerkstatt, Berlin.

La même année invité par Meg Stuart, Christine de Smedt, David Hernandez et Danças Na Cidade, il participe au projet d'improvisation "CrashLanding@Lisboa" et à l'événement "Body Currency" au Wiener Festwochen (invité par Mårten Spångberg, Hortensia Völckers et Christophe Wavelet).,

Il est aussi invité à présenter son travail à la "Berlin Biennale " et chorégraphie une pièce solo: "Self Unfinished" (8.Cottbuser Tanztage, Allemagne).

En 1999, il continue son travail solo et crée une "conférence-performance" appelée "Product of Circumstances". Il danse aussi pour Mårten Spångberg "Avant Garde" et Alain Buffard ("More et Encore".

Avec Petra Roggel il crée le groupe in situ productions et invite des chorégraphes, danseurs, artistes-visuels, théoriciens à travailler sur un projet appelé E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S. La première partie de ce projet a lieu à Berlin ("Internationales Tanzfest Berlin") et Anvers (durant l'exposition "Laboratorium").

En 2000, il conçoit et réalise une pièce de Jérôme Bel, "Xavier Le Roy", collabore avec Yvonne Rainer pour 2 événements ("Meetings") présentés durant le festival "Internationales Tanzfest Berlin" et organise l'événement "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S.# 2.7 Podewil".

En 2001 Xavier Le Roy organise "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S. # 3.2" durant le Springdance Festival à Utrecht et "tricoter (titre provisoire)" durant le Kunstenfestival des Arts, Bruxelles.

En collaboration avec et pour Eszter Salamon dans le cadre du " Vif du Sujet" (Festival d'Avignon) il chorégraphie "Giszelle"

En 2003 il produit "Projet" dans le cadre du festival CAPITALS à Lisbonne et met en scène l’opéra de Bernhard Lang intitulé "Le Théâtre des Répétitions"(Festival "Steirischer Herbst", Graz).

En 2004 il consacre son temps à diverses expériences d’enseignement dans divers contextes et institutions : à l’institut des sciences du théâtre de l’université de Giessen (Allemagne), à P.A.R.T.S (Bruxelles), à l’école des beaux arts de Perpignan, à l’académie d’été de Mousonturm (Frankfurt), pour la London Summer School (Angleterre), dans le cadre de stage lors des festivals In-Presentable (Madrid, Espagne), La batie (Genève) , à la Casa Hoffman de Curitiba (Brésil) et pour la formation ex.er.ce à CCN de Montpellier.

En 2005 : il met en scène une scène d’opéra de Bernhard Lang pour le projet « Seven Attempted Escapes from Silence» au Staatsoper de Berlin (première le 14 septembre). En réponse à une commande du festival Wien Modern 2005 il conçoit et met en scène «Mouvements für Lachenmann » soirée de concert avec des musiques de Helmut Lachenmann (première le 18 novembre).

En 2006, il met en scène l'opéra de Bernhard Lang intitulé "Le Théâtre des Répétitions" à l'opéra de Paris- Bastille. Sur invitation du Berliner Philharmonie il choreografie "Ionisation" de Edgar Varèse avec 40 enfants (première le 10 décembre) dans le cadre de Zukunft@BFil "MusicTanz-Modern Times".

In 2007 invité par Mathilde Monnier il est artiste associé au Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, France où il codirige le programme d'éducation ex.e.r.ce07. Il crée un solo sur la musique de Stravinsky « Le Sacre du Printemps».

2008 il est artiste associé pour une seconde année au Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier où il dirige le programme ex.e.r.ce08 et initie avec Bojana Cvéjic le projet 6M1L (6Mois1Lieu) rassemblant 9 artistes qui travailleront dans divers projets de recherche et production de spectacles et autres évènements en lien avec toutes les activités du CCN de Montpellier.
Actuellement il prépare une chorégraphie pour musiciens, "More Mouvement für Lachenmann", dont la première aura lieu dans le cadre du festival Montpellier Danse 2008 (30 Juin/ 1er Juillet).

Xavier Le Roy, geboren am 17. Februar 1963 in Juvisy sur Orge (Frankreich). Studium der Biochemie an der Universität Montpellier und ab 1998 Unterricht in Modern Dance bei Véronique Larcher während der drei letzten Jahre des Studiums.

1990 Promotionsabschluss als Ph.D. in Molekular- und Zellularbiologie, Umzug nach Paris, Tanzunterricht bei Ruth Barnes und Anne Koren.

1991-1995 Tänzer in der "Compagnie de l‘Alambic" in Paris (Choreograph Christian Bourrigault)

1992- 1997 Zusammenarbeit mit der Performancegruppe "Detektor" (Berlin).

1993 Gründung der Gruppe "Le Kwatt" mit dem Musikwissenschaftler A. Birntraum und der Lichtdesignerin Sylvie Garot.

1999 Zum einen verfolgt Xavier Le Roy weiter seine Soloarbeiten und zeigt die lecture performance "Product of Circumstances" (Podewil, TanzWerkstatt, Berlin). Er tanzt in Mårten Spångbergs Projekt "Avant Garde" und für Alain Buffard (Paris) für das Stück "MORE et encore" (Les Choré - graphiques, Tours / Frankreich)

Desweiteren gründet er gemeinsam mit Petra Roggel "in situ productions" und lädt Choreographen, Tänzer, Videokünstler, Theoretiker ein, um an dem experimentellen Projekt "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S." teilzunehmen. Der erste Teil dieses Projektes fand in Berlin statt (Internationales Tanzfest Berlin) und in Antwerpen (während des interdisziplinären Events "Laboratorium").

2000 Erarbeitung eines Stückes von Jérôme Bel ("Xavier Le Roy"), Kollaboration mit Yvonne Rainer ("meeting") während des Internationalen Tanzfestivals Berlin. in situ productions organisiert E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S. #2.7 im Podewil, TanzWerkstatt, Berlin im Dezember 2000.

2001 organisiert Xavier Le Roy / in situ productions E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S. # 3.2 (Springdance Festival, Utrecht) und "tricoter (provisorischer Titel)" (Kunstenfestival des Arts, Brüssel).

Während des Festival d' Avignon im Rahmen von "Le vif du sujet Choreographie mit und für Eszter Salamon von "Giszelle".

2003 Produktion des Stücks "Projekt" in der Gulbenkian Foundation, im Rahmen von CAPITALS, Lissabon.

Regie / Choreographie / szenische Komposition der Oper "Theater der Wiederholungen" von Bernhard Lang im Rahmen des Festivals "Steirischer Herbst"(Graz)

2004 gibt er zahlreiche Workshops in unterschiedlichsten Kontexten und Institutionen: u.a. am Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft, Universität Giessen, an der Schule P.A.R.T.S (Brüssel), an der Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Perpignan (Frankreich), an der Sommerakademie Mousonturm (Frankfurt), während der Summer School (London), im Rahmen der Festivals In-Presentable (Madrid) und La Bâtie- Festival de Genève (Genf) sowie an der Casa Hoffman de Curitiba (Brasilien) oder auch im Kontext der Ausbildung ex.e.r.ce am Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier.

2005 inszenierte er gemeinsam mit Bernhard Lang eine Szene im Rahmen des Opernprojektes «Seven Attempted Escapes from Silence» an der Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin (Premiere 14. September). Im Auftrag von Wien Modern 2005 konzipierte und inszenierte er «Mouvements für Lachenmann», ein Konzertabend mit Musik von Helmut Lachenmann (Premiere 18. November). 2006 inszeniert er an der Pariser Bastille-Oper Bernhard Langs Oper "Theater der Wiederholungen". Im Rahmen von Zukunft@BFil "MusicTanz-Modern Times" choreografiert er auf Einladung der Berliner Philharmonie "Ionisation" von Edgar Varèse mit 40 Kindern (Premiere 10. Dezember).

Auf Einladung von Mathilde Monnier wird er 2007 Associated artist am Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, Frankreich und kodirigiert das Ausbildungsprogramm ex.e.r.ce07. Er präsentiert sein Solo zur Musik von Stravinsky « Le Sacre du Printemps» (Premiere 27. Juni).

Für ein zweites Jahr, ist er 2008 weiterhin Associated artist am Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, Frankreich sein und kodirigiert das Ausbildungsprogramm ex.e.r.ce08.
Gemeinsam mit Bojana Cvéjic initiert er am CCN de Montpellier das Projekt 6M1L (6Month1Location), in dessen Rahmen 9 eingeladene Künstler diverse Research Projekte und Performance Produktionen durchführen sowie in Verbindung mit jeglichen Aktivitäten des CCN an anderen Ereignissen beteiligt sein werden.
Im Moment bereitet er eine Choreographie für Musiker vor, "More Mouvements für Lachenmann", die im Rahmen des Festivals Montpellier Danse 2008 zur Premiere kommen wird (30. Juni/1. Juli).
